  • Philanthropy: Giving back or Evading Tax?

Taxes. Everyone hates taxes. No, do not, do not even try to make that face no. I know you do. It's no secret that people with money like to shield their earnings from the IRS. What is often a secret, however, is how and where they do it. No one enjoys paying taxes. The ultra-wealthy, the 0.5 of the 1%, like the people who can hire Justin Bieber to cook for their lunch, these people, however, sometimes take steering clear of taxes to a whole another level. Billionaires you say? Okay just take a moment and think, how much taxes do these people actually pay? Okay yes maybe not their fair share but we aren’t going there today; this episode is not about that. This episode isn’t about paying fewer taxes or you know avoiding taxes or fleeing the country not paying taxes nuh-uh. What this is, is all about, not only not paying taxes but actually, gaining something from not paying it, and for this first half of a two-part series, we will focus on one such driver of legal tax evasion- Charity. • The Student Debt Crisis: What went wrong?

One point six- not million, not billion but 1.6 trillion dollars worth of student debt from a single nation alone. What went so wrong that providing for higher education to advance one’s career now leads those very individuals to look for menial jobs just to be able to pay off their loans? Every day, there are news stories about the "college tuition crisis". If you follow current affairs, you are very well aware of how much of a significant topic this was for the 2020 presidential election in the United States. But what is the actual crisis that we are seeking to solve here? Is it the staggering amount of student debt? The rapidly rising cost of higher education? Is the interest being collected on student loans? The high default rate on student loans? Would forgiving student loans solve all of it? Is that even possible? I got you covered; your favourite podcaster is right back at it- in today’s episode, we take the crisis at hand, analyse it, dissect its causes and figure out the solutions that can be implemented to avoid a forthcoming disaster. I wish more politicians could think like me smh

  • The Mafia: How do they make money?

A violent group of good-looking men in black suits who carries guns, rides the finest cars, and shoots whoever comes in their way? Today, the word "Mafia" is used to refer to almost any organized crime group, and in some cases is even used to describe groups completely unrelated to the crime. That is not exactly how things worked out for them in the real world and in today’s episode, we are going to dig deep into the entirety of how the Mafia makes money from the ground up along with its structure, workings, history, and influence that shaped a big part of the integrities of the crime world for an entire century and beyond. • The Soviet Union: How paradoxical economic policies debilitate a nation

In the 1970s and 1980s, the Soviet Union seemed to be one of the most stable political units in the world. In international politics, the Union was very strong and seemed only to be getting stronger. A poster child of Marxist-Leninist socialist ideals and the communist economy that shaped a large part of the 20th century, The USSR rivaled the United States in political, military, and economic strength. While the central command economy of the Union was directly opposed to the free market liberalism of Western nations, the rapid economic development that the Soviets posted in the middle decades of the century made their system appear to be a viable economic alternative. But, we all know how the ended. The thing that not everyone knows is what exactly tore the nation apart, from the inside. Today, we take a dig at those very factors, at least the economic ones, and understand what exactly went wrong for the perfect little Communist Utopia on this football of a planet.

  • Wait...War is good for the economy?

War is nothing new to humanity. The idea of being involved in war seems weird now because we are blessed to live in, quite literally, the most peaceful time, ever, in human existence. But with the ever-growing political tensions and arms race for global dominance, it would be no huge surprise if the world goes to war. None of us here, I hope, has been unfortunate enough to live through a one and face the consequences of it, but, economically, is it really all that bad as we think? What if I told you that a pretty big section of people considers wars, in general, to be beneficial for the economy? We all know about the great boom in the United States post World War 2 followed by gains in terms of sheer GDP figures- not only did they get out of the Great Depression, but also the economy grew in actuality.  A very controversial argument in fact, and we will get to the root of it. Every possible hypothesis of a war economy and recovery, analyzed in one single episode, just as we do it best.

  • What if Robots take over your job?

A decade ago, robots were used to entertain people by failing horribly at whatever they were supposed to do and those very videos would go viral on YouTube. Fast forward to today, no one dare disesteems automation anymore. Autonomous driving is already a thing, millions of factory workers are readily replaced by robots and even our voice can easily be recognized and converted into other forms by AI. Robots can already rival humans at competitive games, intellect, and even menial jobs. It is already happening- the 'transformation' as they said. So, in today's episode, we take a look at how the future of automation can pan out: What effects it had on the economy in the past, the present role of automation in the workforce, and what could be its entanglements going forward in time. After all of that, we will go a step further; we will take a look at a hypothetical world in the distant future where all human labor is replaced by automation as we will try and analyze how such a world would function and what would be its implications. By my personal metric, this is by far the most compelling episode of this podcast. Tune in and be a part of our journey towards the future ;)

  • Is a stronger Currency actually beneficial for the Economy?

It is very likely that you have heard phrases like, “The rupee has fallen further in value” or “The rupee’s single biggest fall on a day since this day”- In today’s episode of Cash Me If You Can, we will be talking about a topic that is so much misinterpreted in public opinion, in the media; it is literally used to victimize governments wherein again, as always, people just touch the tip of the iceberg and pass idiosyncratic comments on things they don’t understand. Well, we don’t blame them, it is not like they could have listened to this podcast before. Jokes apart, today we will discuss a really really interesting topic and answer a simple unbiased question- what does it exactly mean when some Tom, Dick, or Harry on the media says that our currency is slipping in value or rising in value compared to the dollar or any other currency and what effect does that have on the economy in actuality, as we assess and analyze the journey of the Indian Rupee and what effects exchange rates have on the imports, exports and everything in between. • How to get away with printing limitless Money?

What if I told you a government can get away with printing more money than it has or it can generate without worrying about inflation? No fiscal policies, no bonds, no treasury bills, none of those. In the pandemic, the U.S. government has spent money on a scale not seen since World War II—without worrying too much about how it would pay the bills. About 70% of all money ever printed has been printed in 2020. Shouldn’t that cause massive inflation? Should the dollar be worth much less? Shouldn’t the economy be in a bubble?  A newish school of thought that wants to rehabilitate budget deficits and get policymakers thinking more boldly about what they could achieve with public money- Get ready to welcome the nuances of The Modern Monetary Theory. Tune in and start cashing!
