Cash That Ticket - Monday January 26th

Listen Later

Munaf Manji and Dave Essler talk betting for Monday Jan 26th.

The NFL championship weekend delivered two sharply contrasting games that nevertheless produced the Super Bowl 60 matchup many expected, with the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks advancing through very different paths. In the AFC Championship, New England leaned entirely on defense and situational discipline in a 10 to 7 win over the Denver Broncos, a game defined by weather, field position, and patience. Denver struck first on a short touchdown pass set up by a long completion, but offense quickly became scarce as conditions deteriorated. New England answered with a Drake May rushing score and later added a field goal after a clock draining 16 play drive that consumed more than nine minutes. That proved decisive, as neither team could generate sustained offense in the second half. The Patriots forced turnovers, limited Denver to minimal production on the ground, and consistently pressured Jarrett Stidham, making it clear that New England’s plan was to remove the run and trust its defense. While the box score was ugly, execution was not. Key play calls, including a timely flea flicker and a naked bootleg to seal the game, underscored the impact of situational coaching, even as the offense struggled to find rhythm. In the NFC Championship, Seattle earned a 31 to 27 victory over the Los Angeles Rams in a game that flipped the script entirely. Explosive offense, red zone efficiency, and third down success separated the Seahawks in a matchup where both quarterbacks piled up yardage. Sam Darnold answered questions about his health with an efficient three touchdown performance, while Jackson Smith Njigba and Kenneth Walker drove an attack that consistently finished drives. The Rams matched Seattle in yardage and yards per play, but one critical turnover and repeated third down failures proved costly. Seattle capitalized immediately after recovering a muffed punt, then closed the game with a clock killing drive that denied Matthew Stafford a final possession. The contrast between the two championship games set the tone for an intriguing Super Bowl matchup, with Seattle opening as the favorite and early betting movement reflecting confidence in their balance, while New England’s defense and postseason efficiency continue to command respect as the market begins to settle.
