What's so good about marriage, anyway? Three things, in fact, according to people like St. Augustine, Pope Leo XIII, and Pope Pius XI, the last of whom wrote Casti Connubii, an encyclical on marriage. These three blessings, or marks, of matrimony are offspring, conjugal fidelity, and the sacramental character of marriage (including its indissolubility).
