Casual Talk

Some explanation on my earlier video on no-lifeing Japanese for a month. It's not about motivation, it's about the discipline to push through even when "you don't feel like it"

After making that college video, something felt so great about being in the zone and just creating for the sake of creating. Here some of my reflections on that, my first time in years making a proper video.

Talking a bit about why I'm trying to building a following/presence online. Beyond the "become famous/an influencer" typical of the space, there's the advantage of building at a network oriented towards whatever niche you're offering. Even if that only scales to a few hundred people, that's still a lot of people.

If it's not already clear this podcast is more or less a video diary. Just like everyone else, I'm trying to determine the direction of my life at the moment. The major contemplation at the moment is the limitations of materialism.

Just a bunch of ranty thoughts on editing for a solo podcast or not. I think it comes down to authenticity to me, so the less editing the better (only in the context of podcasting, not if I wanna make a different kind of video).

Substack Essay: https://casualvince.substack.com/p/on-comment-sections?r=lq8wl

Inspired by Paul VanderKlay, I decided get out of lurkdom and start commenting on videos again. And ever since I saw Just Some Guy without a Mustache, a YouTube channel with hundreds of thousands of subscribers through commenting alone, I knew I had to talk about the impact of YouTube comment sections. Despite most users being silent lurkers, comments shape conversations and impact content in surprising ways.

I thought I was done talking about Christianity and religion for the time being, but this Jordan Peterson podcast had me thinking about it a little more. Here's my reaction to a few bits of that podcast.
