Unprecedented Government Spending

The federal government has pumped $4.8 trillion into the economy over the past 11 months. Imagine what the U.S. would have looked like had the government just divided that $4.8 trillion among U.S. households. What would that have done? There are 123 million households in the U.S. Given income cutoffs, the stimulus checks have been going out to around 80 percent of those households. Had the government simply divided that $4.8 trillion evenly among the 80 percent of 123 million households, each would have received a check for almost $50,000. Now think about what the U.S. would look like right now if 80 percent of households had received a check for $50,000. For one thing, and for the first time in the history of the human race, a country would have entirely eradicated poverty

(Los Angeles) -The World Is My Country, a new documentary film chronicling the life of the iconic "World Citizen #1" Garry Davis, will premiere on U.S. public television stations and PBS affiliates beginning in April, 2021.

The film, introduced by Academy Award®-winning actor Martin Sheen, includes exclusive footage from Davis’ live performances alongside pristine archival footage documenting his journey from Broadway actor to bomber pilot to being dubbed “World Citizen #1” by the media reports of the day.

“Back in the Golden Age of Broadway Garry wowed audiences with his rapid-fire Danny Kaye number,” said director Arthur Kanegis, “but then he was drafted into World War II and ordered to bomb Brandenburg. Horrified at the carnage, he leapt off the Broadway stage onto the World stage — taking on border guards, guns and jail – in a jaw-dropping mission to unite the people of our world.”

Davis’ bold actions drew the support of Albert Einstein, Simone de Beauvoir, John Paul Sartre, Albert Camus and thousands more to a movement that culminated when the United Nations unanimously passed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on Dec. 10,1948.

For the next 65 years, Davis continued his effort to inspire “we the people” to take the lead in creating world law to outlaw war, oppression and the destruction of the environment — and build a safe, secure and sustainable future for all. In 2013 The New York Times titled his front-page obituary: “Man Of No Nation sees One World of No War.”

“Given the magnitude of today’s global challenges, from climate change and COVID-19 to displaced millions and nuclear war, the urgency of Garry’s ideas has never been greater” said Melanie Bennett, Producer of the film. “What drew me to this film is that Garry actually gives us a solution!”

Albert Einstein was quoted as saying that Davis grasps the key to “whether mankind will disappear by its own hand or continue to exist.”

Distributed by NETA—the National Educational Telecommunications Association, The World Is My Country, begins a coast-to-coast volley of local broadcasts on dozens of U.S. public television and PBS affiliates.
