Author, social science researcher, and empathy pioneer, Karla McLaren, M.Ed., joined us on Catch Good Health® Radio to talk about what emotions are trying to teach us, covid grief, cults, and white supremacy.
Karla’s lifelong work focuses on her grand unified theory of emotions, which revalues even the most “negative” emotions and opens new pathways into self-awareness, effective communication, and healthy empathy.
She is the founder and CEO of Emotion Dynamics LLC, and has authored numerous books, including: Embracing Anxiety: How to Access the Genius of this Vital Emotion, The Dynamic Emotional Integration® Workbook, The Art of Empathy: A Complete Guide to Life’s Most Essential Skill, The Language of Emotions: What Your Feelings are Trying to Tell You, and the multi-media online course Emotional Flow: Becoming Fluent in the Language of Emotions. Karla also co-authored Escaping Utopia: Growing Up in a Cult, Getting Out, and Starting Over, with cult expert Dr. Janja Lalich.
In the podcast we discussed many emotions, including suicidal thoughts. If you or a loved one is struggling, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline phone number is 1-800-273-8255 (U.S. based). To access the Veterans Crisis Line, call the same phone number, and press 1. Both websites have additional resources.
Karla can be found on her website, on Twitter, and Instagram.
