In the final installment of Catching Up On Cinema's “Drinking Movie Month,” Kyle and Trevor review Lexi Alexander's, Punisher: War Zone (2008).
Directed by Lexi Alexander, the film is simultaneously the most explicitly gory violent, as well as the most aesthetically vibrant and colorful of Punisher films.
Starring Ray Stevenson as perhaps the most visually “correct” version of The Punisher on film according to the comic book canon, the movie also boasts a solid supporting cast in the form of Dominic West as a scenery chewing Jigsaw, Bruce Hutchinson as his brother LBJ, Colin Salmon as action hero in training Agent Budiansky, and Julie Benz as the token Lionsgate leading lady from the late 2000's.

In this installment of Catching Up On Cinema's “Drinking Movie Month,” Kyle introduces Trevor to Danny Boyle's, Trainspotting (1996)!
Based on a novel by Irvine Welsh, the film is a charismatic and high energy tale about a gang of troubled Scottish youths and their misadventures in navigating drug abuse in the modern world.
Headlined by a very young Ewan McGregor, the film is packed with emerging Scottish and British talent, consisting of the likes of Ewen Bremner, Robert Carlisle, Jonny Lee Miller and Kevin McKidd.
Stylish and borderline anarchic in it's presentation, the film's presentation and breakneck pace are utterly intoxicating, all the while somehow managing a largely upbeat atmosphere despite the subject matter periodically veering into truly dark territory.
Ewen Bremner also co-starred in AVP (2004), a film that was discussed in our very first upload!:

In this week's installment of Catching Up On Cinema's “Drinking Movie Month,” the boys are joined by Harrison and Jordan from the Grief Burrito podcast to review Edgar Wright's, The World's End (2013)!
Boasting Wright's signature flair for swift, dynamic editing, and razor sharp dialogue, the film is a comedy gem that doubles as an engaging sci-fi actioner.
While the technical aspects of the production are stellar, it's all-star supporting cast consisting of the likes of Patty Considine, Martin Freeman, Eddie Marsan, Rosamund Pike, and even brief appearances by Pierce Brosnan and Bill Nighy, ensure that it's greatest assets are it's characters and the dynamics of their interactions.
TL;DR

In this week's installment of Catching Up On Cinema's “Drinking Movies Month” event, Kyle and Trevor review Joe Wright's biopic, Darkest Hour (2017).
Starring Gary Oldman in an Academy Award winning performance as Winston Churchill during the early days of his time as Prime Minister of the UK, the film is a stylish and dazzling well acted historical drama.
An actor's film, Oldman gives his all and totally disappears in his role as Churchill, aided in no small part by Kazu Hiro's incredible and seamless prosthetic effects work.
Occasionally bogged down by the weight of it's own subject matter, the film's momentum is buoyed by the inclusion of the likes of Kristin Scott Thomas, Stephen Dillane, Ben Mendelsohn and Lily James in supporting roles.

This June is "Drinking Movies Month" at Catching Up On Cinema!
All month long, Kyle will be introducing Trevor to some of his favorite movies to drink along to.
This month we kick things off with a review of Bruce Robinson's darkly comedic, Withnail and I (1987)
A worthy entrant in the Criterion collection, the film is an extremely British cult film with lasting appeal.
Starring a nascent Richard E. Grant as Withnail, and Paul McGann as the titular "I", the would serve as the launchpad for both men's careers.
Though all of our principle cast are continually guzzling down all manner of alcoholic beverages throughout the duration of the film, Kyle's recommendation is that a viewing of Withnail and I is best paired with a bottle of red wine.

In this week's episode of Catching Up On Cinema, Kyle and Trevor sit down to review Zack Snyder's, Army of the Dead (2021)!
Conceived in the late 2000's as a follow up to Snyder's wildly successful feature directorial debut, Dawn of the Dead (2004), the film spent over a decade in developmental Hell before it's eventual 2021 release to theaters and Netflix.
Starring Dave Bautista and an international cast of ensemble players including the likes of Ella Purrell, Ana de la Reguera, Omari Hardwick, and Samantha Win, the film is concerns a heavily armed troupe of mercenaries infiltrating a zombie infested Las Vegas in the hopes of raiding the contents of a casino vault.
Advertised as a colorful, fun, action packed thrill ride, the film is, in actuality, fairly sluggish and dour.
Bizarrely melodramatic and emotionally overwrought, the film is bookended by excellent action/spectacle setpieces, however it is brought down by a bloated an drab middle section.
Stay tuned after the show for a quick PSA regarding the dead pixels scattered throughout the film.
Credit for @redlettermedia for confirming what I had only suspected at the time of viewing.
