This week on Catfish Weekly Austin Brown owner of the popular YouTube channel, Chasing Moby Dick will be the our guest. Here is a little information about Austin.
I am 27 years old and was born and raised in the Oklahoma City area. I work as a Trainer in an oil and gas equipment manufacturing company. I am happily married to my wife Lauren. Growing up I loved to play and watch sports and play guitar. I didn't really grow up fishing. I fished a handful of times with my Dad growing up but I can barely recall those times. I really started to fish about 9 years ago when I was 18 years old. Some friends invited me to fish this little reservoir in the country. We were catching huge Bullheads. Back then I thought a catfish was just a catfish. I didn't know there were different species. We fished that little no name lake hard that summer. At some point I learned there were different types of catfish. The next summer a friend taught me and some others how to use punch bait to catch Channel Catfish in creeks. From there, I was hooked. I learned that in these same creeks there were big catfish. I knew they were there but had trouble giving up the punch bait because with punch bait I always knew I'd get bites. I finally tried some cut bait and the first fish I hooked was a Channel Catfish bigger than any fish I'd ever caught on punch bait. It weighed probably 4 pounds. I fished hard again that year. Sometime in that period my friends dad took me on a trip to the Arkansas River navigation channel. We didn't catch a lot, but in that trip the explorer in me was truly born. After that I began to venture out all over the state, often driving nearly 3 hours just to fish. Sometime in there I noticed that I caught more catfish at night and that it's a lot to drive 3 hours just to fish for the day. So I started camping and catfishing. I learned a long time ago that most of the best fish live in very specific areas. I own different kinds of boats so I can get to nearly all of them. In 2020 I started filming for my Youtube channel, Chasing Moby Dick. I filmed for an entire year before I put one video out so I would always have a stockpile of videos so I could reliably release them every single week. Fishing is what I love to do and I will do what it takes to catch them whether it be camping on a deep hole in 10 degree weather with snow on the ground or dragging a canoe thru the muck in 100 degree heat. I love the fish, the wildlife in water and on land, and the adventure.
