Part of "manger-to-the-cross" redemptive suffering is eschewing immediate pleasure in favor of something better later. This is called delayed gratification. It corresponds with the virtue of patience. Catholics would struggle to grow spiritually without mastering these concepts. Don't be a zombie that needs to chow down on brains ASAP. Take your time, endure the struggle, and gain the greater prize (eternal salvation).

For Catholic men, you may not need to have a perfect washboard stomach to be healthy and masculine, but being flabby and weak is not an option. Six-Pack abs are a decent barometer for how disciplined you are with your fasting and dietary discipline. It correlates heavily with many health metrics and you don't have to do tons of sit-ups to lose the flab.

Caveat: Women SHOULD NOT seek six-pack abs. It's not healthy for you.

So many saints have had magnificent beards: St. Peter, St. Benedict, St. Maximilian Kolbe, and, of course, Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Catholic men should strongly consider growing a beard. It adds luster to your masculinity and while women may not have much use for growing beards themselves (I hope), they should check this episode out as well and encourage their men to grow beards.

So, boost your testosterone and grow a beard.
