Pastor Pete begins a new sermon series based on the Apostle's Creed.

On the last Sunday of every year Pastor Pete preaches on the importance of developing spiritual habits or disciplines.  Preaching from Philippians 4, Pete challenged us to learn contentment and find that Jesus Christ is enough.

We are reminded in John 21 that the gospel is a love story. It's the story of how God's love pursues, restores and transforms a lost people.

From John 20 we learn that that faith can't be generic, but must rest in in the person and work of Jesus Christ.

From John 20 we learn that Jesus has the power to say, "Peace be still," and to rebuke the wind and the storm that comes in the form of your greatest fear.

From John 19 we learn that God uses death to give life, suffering to grant hope, and from the ashes of destruction comes beauty, peace and new life.

From John 19 we see that Jesus bore his own cross willingly, fulfilled the promise of scripture, and died as the true King in order to complete the work of salvation on the cross.

From John 19:1-16 we learn that Jesus overcame our shame. Enduring suffering and humiliation on our behalf, he reversed the curse of sin and shame on the cross.

As Jesus goes on trial in John 18:28-40, we learn that there are three kingdoms that seek to capture the affections and loyalty of our hearts: the kingdom of religion, the kingdom of the world, and the kingdom of Christ.

Preaching from John 18, Vince Oliveri reminds us, that like Peter, we are flawed and broken disciples who need a perfect Savior.
