In the passage we will read, addressed to “you rich people,” he frames wealth in its proper place in our Christian life. We can learn from what he says even if we do not consider ourselves rich. James lays out some good teaching on truths about money for our walk with Christ.

We who are believers in Jesus Christ, we are not trapped by our sinful nature. We don’t have to be like the world says we have to be, but we are free in Christ to pursue Him. We can pursue God. Free to pursue God becomes our new ‘normal.’

He says that salt water and fresh water should not flow from the same stream even though at times they do. When they do, it is a sin that has consequences for us and for those around us. So where do you swim most of the time? Are you a fresh water person or a salt water person? What type of fountain is your mouth?

Genuine faith in Jesus Christ bears fruit in our souls and shows itself in action.

James tells us that favoritism has no place in the Church and therefore no place in the heart of a believer in Christ. James also would tell us that racism has no place in the Church and therefore no place in the heart of a believer in Christ.

In our CONSISTENCY, may we be believers who CONTINUALLY LOOK for God’s will.

In our ACTION, may we be believers who take Christianity seriously and are DOERS of the Word.

Once upon a time, when we feel like huffing and puffing and blowing someone's house down, we should be “quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.” Once upon a time, when someone is at our door huffing and puffing, we should be “quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.” It’s a place to start.
