The Bible teaches that man by nature is "dead in trespasses and sins" (Ephesians 2:1). In other words, he is empty of that divine element which makes him alive to God. This fact can be true of any man or woman, regardless of education, cultural or even religious practices. God's answer to this basic deficiency is... Christ in you! This Sunday, as we continue our study in Colossians, we will look at what it means for Christ to live in us.

The great Apostle Paul wrote about Timothy, his son in the faith, "I have
no man likeminded" (Philippians), or as another translation reads, "There is no one
like Timothy." What in Timothy justified such a commendation? Paul singles out his "unfeigned faith" for special mention (2 Timothy 1:5), and then immediately affirms that this faith first dwelt in Timothy's grandmother Lois, and in his mother Eunice. Paul implies that but for the faith found in Lois and Eunice it is unlikely that there would have been any faith found in Timothy! We have here, then the faith of three generations, Lois, Eunice and Timothy. What an example or commentary this is on the eternal impact of our mothers!
