Elisa Lam went missing while staying at Cecil Hotel in downtown Los Angeles - her story was immediately picked up worldwide after a video of her erratic behaviour in an elevator went viral.

While the police were trying to find Ms Lam, the internet had it's own theories. When the water started tasting funny, maintenance went up to the water tower on the roof and found Elisa - decomposing and naked in the water tank. Web Slueths went crazy with theories - accusing the police and the hotel of a major cover up - and accusing one man of murder.

The Neflix series goes into a lot of detail about abstract things that don't have anything to do with the case, but what keeps us watching?
