If you’re a fan of Gru the most loveable supervillain and his army of yellow, goofy Minions from the animated Despicable Me movie franchise, then you are bound to love the new initiative taken by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. The innovative collaboration between WHO and the filmmakers is a novel way of giving a serious message that deals with a grave concern, albeit in a humorous manner.

They are urging people to keep their distance to help fight the spread of the novel coronavirus in a new public service announcement (PSA) unveiled on Wednesday. Illumination, the animation studio behind Despicable Me, developed the PSA with the WHO and the United Nations Foundation. The PSA is voiced by actor Steve Carell as Gru and will be translated into multiple languages including Spanish, French, Portuguese and Arabic, among others.
