Let's play a game of bad news, good news, bad news.

Bad news first: 2020. Literally all of it. Every second. Every waking moment of 2020. It's grim, I know. Bushfires, pandemic, murder hornets. When will it end?

But the good news: Apparently, scientists have discovered a parallel universe, just like our own. It's a little different to ours though. In this mirror world, time runs backward. It's like a Benjamin Button universe. That means they're heading back to 2019, the good ol' days, right?

Hagen Mills, an actor who appeared in episodes of Baskets and Swedish Dicks, died by suicide at his home in Mayfield, KY, after shooting and wounding the mother of his young daughter.

Shad Gaspard, 39, was caught in a rip current with his 10-year-old son, Aryeh. His last words were “just secure my son, rescue my son,” the authorities said.

Jamie Lynn Spears returns to acting for the first time in 12 years with Netflix's Southern family drama, Sweet Magnolias. It's her first major role since playing the eponymous heroine in Nickelodeon's teen sitcom, Zoey 101, from 2005 to 2008.

"It feels great. Why haven't I been doing this constantly?" Spears joked to ET's Rachel Smith over Zoom about being back in front of the camera. "I think life has a way of putting itself at the right place at the right time and this was it. This was the right place at the right time."

Netflix brings Sherryl Woods’ beloved series of novels to life in Sweet Magnolias, a deep-fried drama about a trio of southern ladies living and loving in South Carolina. Chris Klein and Jamie Lynn Spears round out the cast of characters that make up the town of Serenity. But is this town worth checking out for a spell or should you just keep on driving?

It's 2020, and Jamie Lynn Spears is ready to step back into the spotlight.

"I had been in denial, not really admitting to myself how much I missed acting," Spears tells The Hollywood Reporter. "I was working on my music for a while, and then I focused on my family for a bit. With acting, I was just waiting for a project that made sense."

Sweet Magnolias, a breezy Netflix series about three best friends somewhere outside of Charleston, South Carolina, is a show that knows the potential – and limits – of its ingredients. Created by Sheryl J Anderson and based on the series of novels by Sherryl Woods, it stars three steadily working but not well-known actors, whose episodic orbit is not the local coffee shop or bar but the couch, weekly margarita in hand. There, they extoll the messes of their lives (balance, jobs, motherhood) which, in real life, can be overwhelming; here, it’s mixed with light tea-spilling, perfectly coiffed hair and expertly mixed drinks.

If you're looking for a fluffy romance drama to ease the strain of, oh, the whole global pandemic thing, do I have the pick for you: Sweet Magnolias, which dropped on Netflix May 19. Based on the Sweet Magnolias book series, this fluffy small-town drama is created in the vein of Hart of Dixie and Gilmore Girls, with ingredients including: a small, tight-knit town; frequent cocktail nights; love triangles; and a sense of earnestness that doesn't generally feel forced or fake. 

JoAnna Garcia plays Maddie Townsend, the lovable protagonist who's forced to start over when her husband (Chris Klein) runs off with his pregnant mistress (a very apologetic-looking Jamie Lynn Spears). We have bro-y friendships and curious teenagers, Sunday church services and a beloved local restaurant, not to mention plenty of heavy Southern accents (the show is set in Serenity, South Carolina). The inversion of edgy small-town drama Big Little Lies, this fluffy romance series will do your tired heart some good; it's as soothing as the spa that the three best friends who helm the series found together. 

Can you believe it? The Voice Season 18 finale is finally here, and soon we'll learn which of the remaining Top 5 artists will take home the champion title as well as the ultimate grand prize: $100,000 and a record deal with Universal Music Group.
