Celluloid Bastards will return soon rebranded as CELLULOID BASTARDS X, and we'll be talking all about films that received an X or NC-17 rating. In the meantime, here's a bonus episode to tide you over that compiles all of the fake ads featured throughout the series thus far. And rest assured that when we return, we will remain, as always, ad free. Well, except for these fake ones.
Also, be on the lookout for The Video Tramps' album finally debuting on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, etc. later this week! (That's the band I'm in, incidentally.)
The tables have turned and the roles have reversed! In this episode, regular guest Adrienne Clark takes over as host to interview John-Paul about his experiences growing up with movies and the evolution of his taste from Superman II to Do the Right Thing to Possession and a bunch more! Childhood fears, artistic breakthroughs, political awakenings...this conversation covers it all!
Jessica Scott, writer and creator of the excellent blog We Who Walk Here, joins the show for the first time to talk about the evolution of her taste in movies from The Secret of NIMH to The Passion of Joan of Arc to TerrorVision and lots more! Come listen to us chat about sun-soaked horror, grimy film noir, our mutual love for Jeffrey Combs, and plenty of other topics in this truly epic conversation!
Also remember to follow Jessica on Twitter at @WeWhoWalkHere if you don't already!
Brette Morningstar is back on the show to talk about her personal history of movie watching and how her taste evolved over time from The Polar Bear King to La Strada to Valerie and Her Week of Wonders, plus a lot more! So come listen to this old married couple spend Valentine's Day yacking about nightmarish cinema, cool video store clerks, and why parents just don't understand.
This week's guest is Miss Serling, so come listen to the history of her taste in movies from The Last Unicorn to Halloween 4 to Suspiria and lots more! Join us as we discuss our experiences at horror cons, the blue lighting of Brain Damage, why we like movies that don't make much logical sense, and plenty of other fun topics!
Emma Sherr-Ziarko, host of the excellent Pairing Podcast, takes us on a mystical journey through the history of her taste in movies from absurdist comedies to exuberant musicals to gothic melodramas to high fantasy adventures, including a few that seem to fit into all of those categories! Join us as we discuss our favorite random lines from Excalibur, our mutual affinity for goth aesthetic, and plenty of other juicy topics in this truly epic conversation!
We're back with a brand new season and a brand new format! We're doing a deep dive into our guests' personal histories of movie watching to see how their tastes evolved over time and which specific movies helped shape them.
First up is series regular Adrienne Clark, who discusses her experiences with films ranging from The Brave Little Toaster to Rear Window to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre to The Devils, among others!
Aaand we're back! If you've missed us during our hiatus (and even if you haven't), you can now rejoice by joining series regular Adrienne Clark and me as we delve into the reviled 1993 erotic thriller Sliver! It's a juicy conversation that touches upon the physics of the movie's sex scenes, the twisty vagueness of the plot, and an overview of the dreaded NC-17 rating.
A bit of a break from the usual routine here as John-Paul gets impatient waiting for a guest to choose Mars Attacks! and decides to just go ahead and choose it himself. Fortunately, Brette Morningstar was kind enough to talk about it with him to avoid the catastrophe that would have been John-Paul talking about it by himself for an hour and a half. So join us as we discuss this largely misunderstood all-star homage to Cold War-era sci-fi. We also talk about its place in Tim Burton's filmography and why even most of his fans didn't like it. Oh, and there's also a lengthy diatribe about fandoms in the beginning.
