What changes in our understanding of media if we change the center point to Black women? What kinds of different futures can we imagines if we do? This is what Catherine Knight Steele is asking in her book Digital Black Feminism
The book positions Black women at the center of the past, present, and future of technology and offers a narrative that connects the 1900s writing of Black women to the bloggers of the aughts and and social media influencers today.
Catherine Knight Steele is an Assistant Professor of Communication at the University of Maryland – College Park. There she directs the Black Communication and Technology lab. Her research focuses on race, gender, and media. Specifically African American culture and discourse in traditional and new media. Today we are talking about the book she authored Digital Black Feminism.
