On Sunday morning I preached about asking for help from others and giving help to those in need. On Sunday nights I have been preaching through a series titled "The Promises of God."  Last week I began another “series within a series” that will focus on “God’s Promise to Reward His Saints.”  During this series we are going to look at the five possible crowns that Christians can receive at the “Judgment Seat of Christ.”  The third crown, in scriptural order, comes from 2 Timothy 4:6-8 and is called “The Crown of Righteousness.”  This passage of scripture is very powerful because Paul wrote it from his prison cell in expectation of his imminent execution.  Paul tells Timothy, and through him Christians today, that he has earned the Crown of Righteousness based on the righteous work he performed following his salvation.  Christians today can earn this crown as well.    Sermon by Rev. On Sunday mornings, for the past several months, we have been working out way through the Gospel of Luke and this week we began chapter 5.  We studied Jesus calling the first disciples to follow Him. I told my congregation that following Jesus is not an easy task and WILL involve much sacrifice.  I also told them that following Christ involves three character traits that all Christians need to have; brokenness, fearlessness, and faithfulness. On Sunday nights I have been preaching through a series titled "The Promises of God."  Last week I began another “series within a series” that will focus on “God’s Promise to Reward His Saints.”  Over the next five weeks (starting tonight) we are going to talk about how the Lord will reward Christians for their service to Him with one or more of five crowns/wreaths.  This event is called “The Judgment Seat of Christ.”  Last night I talked about the first crown (in scriptural order).  I called this crown “The Crown of Spiritual Self-Discipline.”  After salvation, the most important part of a Christian’s life is their walk with God.  Christians NEED to live a life of spiritual self-discipline.  If we can live a disciplined life we will receive this imperishable crown.  Sermon by Rev. Sunday morning, we talked about the genealogy of Jesus.  Most pastors would skip this section when preaching through a book in the Bible, but not me.  I figured that God put it there for a reason and who am I not to preach from it.  So, on Sunday, I told my congregation that we can learn three things from Jesus lineage; Jesus’ ancestry connects Him to God, Jesus’ ancestry connects Him to humanity and Jesus’ ancestry provides salvation to all who believe.  Check it out. Sunday morning we talked about the baptism of Jesus which John the Baptist told us about.  We learned that Jesus' baptism (the one He performs on us not the physical baptism of Jesus) is twofold and contains the Holy Spirit and fire.  If you have been saved you have already received Jesus' baptism of the Holy Spirit.  If believe that Jesus died and rose again to forgive you of your sins and open the gates of heaven, and confess that belief outwardly, then you are saved.  Unfortunately, the opposite is true for those who do not know Christ; they receive the baptism of fire which takes place in hell after they die.  But these people still have hope; they can turn their lives over to Christ today and receive the Holy Spirit, which is their pledge from God. On Sunday nights I have been preaching through a series titled "The Promises of God."  This past Sunday evening we talked about God the Son's promise to come again.  Life is so hard and, I think, that it is very easy to get discouraged.  BUT, something that always encourages me the fact that Jesus said He WILL come again.  So no matter what you have going on, no matter what difficulties and troubles you are facing, turn them over to Jesus and trust in Him always.  WHY?  Because He will come again!
