The sin of pride can spoil the best of things, even our devotion
to God. Jesus begins chapter six with a warning to his
disciples. Don't give, pray, fast, etc. in order to be seen by men
and thus ruin the integrity of these disciplines. Instead
seek the true rewards that come from God when we diligently seek
him. Why might Jesus warn his disciples of spiritual pride?
What is the cost of making others our audience, over and
above God? How might we overcome the subtle temptation to
turn our faith into a means for selfish gain? Jesus answers
these questions and more in today's text.
