On the way to the Garden of Getshemane, Jesus gives his disciples a picture of who they are to be in the world and how an ongoing relationship with him will make it possible.  The picture is of a fruitful vine.  How does God bring about his goodness in and through our lives?  This week's text answers that question.  

One of the most difficult things in life is to admit that we need help.  And yet, one of the most important things for us to realize in the Christian life, is that we need help.  In fact, this was the design of the Christian life.  We need so much help that Jesus promised to send his disciples The Helper, the Holy Spirit. Is there an area in your life where you need God's help?  This week Jesus teaches that help has come. 

Jesus turns troubled hearts into trusting hearts.  Excessive worry and anxiety are common to everyone, even those who walked with Jesus while he was on earth. Jesus helped his disciples in their most worrisome state, he can help us too. How?  Is it possible for him to meet us in our distress, in our worry, and even in our unbelief?   

What does Jesus mean when he says, a "new" command I give you.  What's new about it, and how does it shape our lives as Christians?  How does it define our purpose as the church?

Perhaps the most contercultural aspect of Jesus was his humility.  The one who deserved to be served, served others.  In this weeks text, Jesus demonstrates his service to his disciples in a very profound way.  On the last night of his life, he washes their feet.  Why did he do it?  And what mark does this leave on his followers?  What mark should this continue to leave on the church today?

Jesus said in Matthew 6:24 that we can't serve both God and money.  In this weeks text, we see two characters, one loves, serves and cherishes Jesus, the other loves, serves and cherishes money.  One leads to abundant life, the other leads to death. Why does God want our ultimate affection, and why does that lead to abundant life?

If Jesus offers us abundant life, how does that work in light of the pain we experience?  This week we look at a story about the incredible love of Jesus.  This is also a story of human heartbreak, loss.  Join us as we observe what happens when love and pain intersect.  

How strong do we have to be to live out the Christian life?  For many of us it's easy to focus on our own strength over the strength of Christ.  In our text today we learn that belonging to Jesus is an ongoing process of relenquishing our strength for his.  What does that look like practically, and why is it often easier said than done?

We all follow someone or something. The question is, what is the result, and does it give us life or take away life.  In our text today, Jesus reveals himself as the Good Shepherd, as the one who is excellent at giving us life, and not just any life but life abundant.  Who do you follow? What is the result?
