Ephesians 1:1-2

The book of Ephesians is the practical handbook of Christian doctrine and Christian living that emphasizes the pivotal role of Jesus in our lives and redemption. And Ephesians helps us to realize that In Christ we are given a new life, and because of Christ we are called to a new lifestyle. In other words, Ephesians calls us to be “Gospel Shaped People.”

Romans 12:1-2

True transformation comes by gaining a new understanding of God, ourselves, and the world. What we are after ultimately is to be conformed to the image of Christ. We are to be like Jesus, though not in the sense that we can ever gain deity. We are not god-men. But our humanity is to mirror and reflect the perfect humanity of Jesus. A tall order!

Why do we make resolutions for the New Year? Perhaps because we’re unsatisfied with the status quo and desire more out of life. Life, if we’re being honest, can be grainy – but we want to live in 4K. In Romans 12:1-2, the Apostle Paul summarises the great vision of the Christian life: a life full of flavour and excitement, empowered by God from beginning to end, pursuing God’s glory. It’s a life of sacrifice. But it’s also a life worth living – and one worth dying for.

Living for Jesus is often not easy - especially if we're committed to being whole-hearted in serving Jesus.  Paul's challenge to "present our bodies as living sacrifices" seems to be unnecessarily extreme, and yet we'll find that its the only way to fully serve our God Who has done so much for us!

With unlimited volume of information flowing into our brains every day, how do we know what to listen to? Paul instructs the church in Rome how to respond to the sacrifice of Jesus. Will we take time to pause and consider God’s mercy on our life and allow His Spirit to transform us.
