I was looking back at this past decade of my life and was struck at how different I was a decade ago.

I was first married, a new mom and had SO MANY limiting beliefs. At the time I didn’t realize it, but gosh I was just a people pleaser and doing what everyone wanted me to do.

I was stuck in the way I was raised and didn’t really have my own opinions.

I always thought of myself as a leader but at the same time, I was just a follower! I just let other people’s opinions guide me.

I also let things I said to myself, or things other people said to me, develop beliefs about who I was as a person.

For example, dogs. The younger me did not like dogs. So I told myself, I am not a dog person and never will be.

I did the same thing with exercising, public speaking, hiring my team and going places without my husband.

All of these little beliefs were big blocks in who I actually could be.

All throughout my 20s, I carried these really strong limiting beliefs with me but within the past few years, I’ve realized that my thoughts and beliefs can change.

I did the work to reframe my fixed, limited mindset and I figured out that I love dogs, so much that I even have two of them.

I am strong when I push myself. I can learn how to ski. I can hire people. I can trust people with my business. I can speak in public and I’m good at it.

Your thoughts can change, and if you find yourself in that fixed mindset, telling yourself things like “Oh I’m just this way, it will never change,” or “I’m always going to be this way,” it’s NOT TRUE.

You don’t have to stay there and always be a bad cook or always hate going to the gym or always have a bad relationship with money or always be late to things.

Just because you were raised one way or have had people tell you the same thing about yourself, doesn’t mean it has to stay that way forever.

So let's get those limiting beliefs out of here and set you up to become the person you want to be. I give all the tips for expanding your fixed mindset to help you become whoever you want to be.

We made it! Everyone is in school around here and it is the best feeling.

As I was sitting down to work this week and relishing in how much uninterrupted work time I had now that school is in, I was actually shocked at how little work I had to do.

Like I only sat at my desk for two hours and that never happens. The last week I’ve just been doing my coaching sessions and the occasional shoot in the studio…and random house projects.

So I was wondering where all my work went! And I started thinking back to last fall and what my back-to-work schedule was when school started last year. I had so much work piled on from that summer and I realized the reason why I had so much work then and so little work now is because I took a workcation this year.

I actually take a workcation pretty often, like when I have to go speak somewhere or travel overnight for work. This time I was in Bear Lake, thinking I was going to be with my family, but they all got pulled into birthday parties so ended up just being me.

And instead of canceling the trip, I decided to go to Bear Lake anyway and turn it into my little getaway.

And I got so much done! I wrote 12 blogs, scheduled my social media for the next three months, caught up on emails and updated email marketing. And of course, took some time for me and binged some Netflix rom-coms.

I just sat at my computer and got it all out.

The secret to feeling caught up and ahead is a WORKCATION.

A couple of weeks ago I was asked to speak at one of my church events about self worth and helping women feel like their best is enough.

I loved the opportunity and was so excited because that’s my passion! I want every woman to feel like they’re doing what they’re being called to do and to not worry what other people are doing. I want women to feel empowered in who they are.

So I came across the analogy of riding a bike when I was preparing to speak.

Riding a bike up a hill is HARD. And when you’re riding up a hill, you feel a little silly because you’re going so slow and barely moving.

You might feel like people are passing you and thinking you’re going so slow and making no progress. But that really isn’t the case. You don’t have people booing you and shaming you for going slow and going at your own pace.

Everyone whose passing you is actually encouraging you and cheering you on for doing something hard.

It’s the same thing in life.

Getting kids out of the house for school, doing your best to take care of your body, staying on top of the house work, or managing personal life problems may be your equivalent of riding a bike up a hill.

And just like when you're working your way up that hill, you think neighbors and family are booing you and shaming you for taking things one at a time or for not being a super mom in every aspect of your life.

And not just that, you probably compare what other women are doing and how they seem to be having an easy time going up that figurative hill of life, being all super mom, and you’re over here struggling just to get the laundry done.

“Well, they must have fallen into money - their family is really rich.”

“They just have it easy because they have two incomes and nice jobs.”

If you’ve had any of those thoughts about other people and their spending choices, you’re 99.99% triggered by money.

My sweet friend Pualei Lynn is joining us today to talk all about creating community. I know this episode was meant to be because my interview with her was rescheduled over and over again the last couple of weeks just because of different things that would come up.

The opposition was in full force and it seemed like the universe just didn’t want this episode to happen! I now know why because it is SO GOOD and I know 100% there are women out there who need to hear what Pualei and I talk about today.

I met Pualei through her Elevate women's group, she would invite me to go speak at group events and she just has so much goodness, light and love. Her Elevate women’s group brings in women from around the state, to come to events and give women a supporting community.

Elevate was founded two years ago when she was in the middle of a divorce. She saw a need in herself, and in others, a place to be with other women - to receive support and offer support.

Elevate is a place for women to go to receive strength from a community of women as they’re going through different struggles and life challenges.

Get this, Pualei used NO social media or marketing to build Elevate. It completely spread by word of mouth.

Pualei wasn’t building this group to bring in money or get it out there to hustle, she just wanted it to be a place of community for women and she knew that it would attract those who needed it.

I love love love that Pualei guides her business with her own intuition. That’s probably why Pualei and I align so well, because she and I have both learned to lean into our intuition and let God steer the boat.

So I am soooo excited about today’s episode because I believe this is just a great change of pace to what I’ve talked about before in past episodes. I really really think a lot of you are going to benefit from today’s spiel.

Last week I started reading a book called the Feel Good Effect by Robin Downs. And it’s just a little baby book, something I found at one of our department stores. It was a short read but a GREAT reminder of those mindset tools I’m talking about all the time and kind of a wake up call to let go of my perfectionism/all-or-nothing thinking.

All-or-nothing thinking is like believing if you can’t do something 100%, sometimes even 1000%, then you can’t do it at all and there is no in between. It's thinking in extremes, absolutes and contributes that perfectionism mindset.

And I don’t feel like I’m that way in my business, I’m pretty flexible and give myself grace there, but as I really started reading about it, I realized I am “all or nothing” in how I treat myself and talk to myself.

I’m sure you can think of instances when you’ve let all or nothing thinking influence you, too.

So forget about that perfectionism and needing to make a night and day difference. Just tackle one thing at a time and focus on being one percent better, not 100%, or even 1000% for you overachievers.

What can you do today to be a little bit better than you were yesterday?

I see this a lot with spending or exercising or eating healthy. I see people expecting to quit soda cold turkey, go to the gym every day and spend like nothing for a whole month.

But guys, that doesn't work! And I bet you've tried the same, so you know it doesn't work either!

So today I talk about how you can rework that all-or-nothing thinking to just being one percent better.

I want to leave you with one last quote by Michael A. Dunn! “Every effort we make to change, no matter how tiny it is to us, just might make the biggest difference in our lives.”
