Hoy quiero compartir uno de los encuentros más increíbles de estos últimos tiempos, pude encontrarme con “Vainer Polo” un ciclo viajero que se encontraba en Venezuela y lo vimos de casualidad, les cuento un poco sobre él y de nuestro increíble entro. Polo, es un ex-agente de viajes de São Paulo, Brasil, que transformó su vida para perseguir la libertad y la conexión a través del cicloturismo. Su aventura sobre dos ruedas comenzó en marzo de 2021 en São Paulo, inicialmente con el objetivo de recorrer todos los estados de Brasil. Este plan nació por la pandemia, cuando el dinero que había ahorrado para un "mochilazo tradicional" se utilizó para sobrevivir un tiempo, y decidió que la bicicleta era la forma más económica y profunda de viajar.
Hey, Cycling. Today I want to share one of the most incredible encounters I've had recently. I got to meet “Vainer Polo,” a cycle traveler who was in Venezuela, and we saw him by chance. Let me tell you a little bit about him and our incredible encounter. Polo is a former travel agent from São Paulo, Brazil, who transformed his life to pursue freedom and connection through cycle tourism. His adventure on two wheels began in March 2021 in São Paulo, initially with the goal of traveling through all the states of Brazil. This plan was born out of the pandemic, when the money he had saved for a “traditional backpacking trip” was used to survive for a while, and he decided that cycling was the most economical and profound way to travel.
He spent a long period of time, approximately three years, exploring his country. His journey through Brazil was particularly challenging and extensive, cycling through every state. One notable stretch was the dreaded BR-319, where he had to contend with knee-deep mud and wildlife. Once he completed his tour of Brazil, he expanded his mission to all of South America. He has been on the road for more than five years since beginning his journey in 2021. The countries (Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia, and Venezuela) confirm that his route is an ambitious challenge to cross the continent.

His journey is a testament to resilience, as his first bicycle was even stolen in Manaus, but he continued on with the support of the growing cycling community. Vainer, like other cycle tourists, had planned to reach the Caribbean, crossing Venezuela lengthwise. By the time he entered the country, he had already covered more than 50,000 km on his journey (data from a previous stage). The city of Cumaná, capital of Sucre state, is an essential stop for travelers seeking to explore Venezuela's Caribbean coast, possibly with the intention of visiting Margarita Island or continuing westward. However, he decided to travel south again via Maturín with the plan of exploring the Gran Sabana.
Vainer busca el sentido, la libertad y la conexión con la historia, el alma de los lugares y, sobre todo, con las personas. Su travesía es un testimonio de resiliencia, ya que su primera bicicleta fue incluso robada en Manaos, pero continuó adelante con el apoyo de la creciente comunidad cicloturista. Sharing a conversation and taking a “great photo” with Vaines, who has dedicated more than five years to the route, is an invaluable memory that connected me to Vainer Polo's personal story and the adventure of traveling through America.
