CFILM Podcast!!!

This week on the CFILM podcast, Ed Decter gives a lecture on the upcoming Wesleyan at AFI program in Los Angeles. The program is designed as a starting point for Wes students looking to move to LA, and includes an on-the-ground look at every facet of the industry, including visits with very talented and famous alumni like Joss Whedon, Alex Kurtzman, and many many more. Email Professor Scott Higgins for more information on the program!

The Wolf 359 team is back! In this episode, we conclude our conversation with a discussion of everything and anything, but in particular the team's current projects and some noteworthy films we've been watching.

This week on the CFILM podcast, Scott Higgins sits down with alumni Sarah Shachat, Zach Valenti, and Gabriel Urbina, creators of the very famous and award-winning sci-fi audio drama Wolf 359. The subject of today's episode, however, is their most recent project Time Bombs, a short series that they completed in an impossible one week. The writing process, time bombs as narrative devices, and many other curiosities abound in this episode. Tune in next time for more of the team's work and writing philosophy!

Our discussion of W. C. Fields' It's a Gift continues with a surprise episode by Visiting Professor Ben Model! Model explores Fields' surprisingly rich history of silent film. How does such a verbal comedian come to make silent films? How do they fit into his body of work? Model uses It's the Old Army Game, the predecessor to It's A Gift, as a jumping off point for these questions and more.

Part two is here! Scott Higgins and Jeanine Basinger sit down together to watch the W.C. Fields classic It's A Gift. Part one covered some of the important context for the film, and in part two we finally sit down to enjoy, and to break down some of the things that make it so special.

A conversation (reposted, for your convenience) with Noah Isenberg on his book, We'll Always Have Casablanca.

Scott Higgins and Jeanine Basinger sit down for the first of a two-part discussion about the classing WC Fields film It's a Gift (1934). They talk about vaudeville, comedy, and memory, but mostly they talk about topless hats. Part Two coming soon!

The last episode in our four-part lecture series on Jaws covers the role of the auteur in filmmaking. Is Steven Spielberg an auteur? If so, how do we approach his career, and what role does Jaws play? Professor Marc Longenecker thoroughly breaks down these questions and more.

The CFILM podcast continues its exploration of Jaws! Today, Michael Slowik discusses the film's music, including THAT score, and how to talk about film music in general.

Our series on JAWS continues! This week, Scott Higgins discusses the film's context, its legacy, and how we can meet it on its own terms.
