What are we supposed to do with all our wealth? How do we honor and please God with all our stuff? How can we use it to lay a good foundation for the future? As we return to 1 Timothy 6, we will look at Paul’s last three closing commands to Timothy – instruct the rich, guard the deposit, and avoid empty chatter. We will have some final thoughts as we conclude our study of 1 Timothy. Join us as we dive in!

There is not only one right way of thinking of Jesus, but there are many wrong ways. How do you think of Jesus? Is he shaping you, or are you trying to shape your picture of Him? As we return to Paul’s letter to Timothy, Paul gives eight closing commands. At the heart of these commands Paul pauses to praise Jesus - the King of Kings, and Lord of Lords, who alone possesses eternal life. Join us as we dive into 1 Timothy 6:11-16.

As I am a bit behind on life this week, in lieu of a typical pastor’s pen, I leave you with the

text we shall be diving into Sunday and some questions to meditate on in anticipation –

11 But flee from these things, you man of God, and pursue righteousness,

godliness, faith, love, perseverance and gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of faith; take

hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you made the good confession in the

presence of many witnesses. 13 I charge you in Closing Commands (Shawn Isaacs

4.16.26) the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who testified

the good confession before Pontius Pilate, 14 that you keep the commandment without stain

or reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 which He will bring about at the

proper time—He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord

of lords, 16 who alone possesses immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no

man has seen or can see. To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen (1 Timothy 6:11-

16)

How are YOU “taking hold of eternal life”?

What “good confession” do you suppose Timothy made?

Was it the same as the confession Jesus made before Pilate?

What commandment was Timothy to keep without stain or reproach?

Paul pauses to describe King Jesus. Like Paul, take a moment to praise Jesus for what He

has done!

As we return to Paul’s letter to Timothy, he returns to the subject of false

teachers. You have heard it said, “the love of money is a root of all sorts of

evil.” You may know that phrase, but do you know its context? By the end of

this sermon, you will – and it may surprise you. You will see that context

solves contradictions. Join us as we dive into 1 Timothy 6:1-10.

As we gather to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth: the greatest day in

cosmic history, and the most important day ever for mortal man, we will examine

the resurrection by asking: “So what if he rose?” or maybe to state it more precisely:

“If he rose, what does that mean for me?”

As we return to Paul’s letter to Timothy, he returns to the subject of elders.

What should be done when accusations are hurled at those charged with

overseeing the flock? How are elders to be protected from false accusations?

How are elders to be held accountable when the accusations are true? How

are elders to be honored or disciplined accordingly? Join us as we dive into 1

Timothy 5:17-25.

The poor, needy, and vulnerable were attracted to Jesus and his ministry. He ate

with sinners. He met at the homes of tax collectors. A prostitute washed his feet. As

we return to Paul’s letter, he has instructed Timothy to be an example of godliness

through speech, conduct, faith, love, and purity. Good works were to be put on

display that others might see and give glory to God. But this calls for wisdom –

which good works? If every needy person came to the elders at Ephesus, who

should they help? Why? Likewise, who should we help and why? Join us as we dive

in to 1 Timothy 5.

Jesus taught his disciples they were the light of the world so they should do their

good works to be seen and God may be praised. He also taught his disciples to do

their good works in secret, that they may receive a reward in heaven. Jesus did not

contradict himself when teaching his disciples; rather, his teaching calls for wisdom.

Godly lives are seen and observed. Godly lives are lived in secret. As we return to

Paul’s letter to Timothy, we will come to discern the goal of godliness. Join us as we

As the church grew in the first century they endured threats from inside and out.

Returning to Paul’s letter to Timothy, Timothy is warned to stand firm against the

doctrines of demons – and you may be surprised to see the deceitful teachings Paul

warns against. Join us as we dive into 1 Timothy 4.
