Welcome to Prepare — a Holy Week podcast helping you slow down and ready your heart for Easter. In this final episode, we reflect on the deep significance of the Last Supper, where Jesus redefines the Passover meal and initiates a new covenant through His body and blood.
In Matthew 26:17–30, Jesus prepares for His final meal with His disciples, a moment that will forever change the meaning of the Passover. The disciples gather to celebrate God’s deliverance from Egypt, but Jesus reinterprets the symbols of the meal, pointing to His own sacrifice as the ultimate deliverance. With shocking words, He declares that the bread is His body, and the wine is His blood, poured out for the forgiveness of sins.
This act marks the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies, like the promise of a new covenant in Jeremiah 31:31-34. Jesus is the spotless Lamb, whose blood will save His people from judgment and bring them into a new relationship with God. As He speaks of the new covenant, He assures the disciples that they will one day share this meal again in His Father’s Kingdom.
As we prepare for Easter, we are invited to reflect on what this new covenant means for us today. How can we prepare our hearts to receive the incredible gift of Jesus’ sacrifice?
Take a moment to reflect on the preparations we can make in our lives as we approach Easter, remembering the profound significance of Jesus’ words and His sacrifice.
