How should we respond to George Floyd's death, and many others before him, and Black Lives Matter? Firstly, we empathise and sympathise which those who suffer racism, which is far more widespread than many people realise. Secondly, we seek justice and reform in all the places and systems where it is needed. But thirdly, we seek underlying change, people changed in their hearts which will result in deeper and longer-lasting change. This change can only come about when we recognise that the deeper problem behind racism is sin. And the solution is the gospel of faith in Christ Jesus, resulting in not only forgiveness for sin, and a new relationship of acceptance with God the Father, but also a changed heart, a new heart, by the Holy Spirit. Faith in Christ results in lasting change, and deeper reconciliation, unity with people from all cultures and races, as one redeemed people of God. Unity in Christ is the ultimate solution to the sin of racism.
