Words matter. Our words reflect the state of our hearts. Yet, forgiveness, comfort and blessing are found in God's gracious words to us in the gospel. And by the power of the Holy Spirit, our words can be words of blessing to others too.

If someone claims to have faith, but there is no evidence to support that claim, then they do not have saving faith. A true faith changes lives, and is evidenced by works of love, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, goodness, etc., as followers of Jesus.

Discrimination in favour of the rich, against the poor, is not how Jesus lived, and is not how we ought to live too. We ought to live as he did, such as showing mercy to others. Works matter.

How we treat the most vulnerable in society is an indication of what our faith is like. True religion will care for those in need, from the foundation of a living and obedient faith in Christ Jesus. True religion will look like Jesus.

Even though our efforts in the Lord may not result in the blessings and outcomes we seek here and now, we can persevere with assurance and joy knowing that they will be rewarded in the world to come. We persevere in faith, trusting that God will ultimately fulfil all his promises, in Christ Jesus.

This world is not our ultimate home. Christians are strangers and foreigners in this world, as we look forward to our eternal destiny in the world to come. We can therefore sympathise with those who are migrants, refugees and asylum seekers here and now, showing the compassion of God to them, as well as holding out the gospel to them.
