Los Angeles today has become the epicenter of a constitutional showdown. Without the consent of California's governor, the federal government deployed 2,000 National Guard troops on June 8. This deployment followed aggressive immigration raids targeting predominantly Latino communities, sparking protests met with tear gas, rubber bullets and the targeting of journalists. In this edition of The Hub, Wang Guan talked to Josef Mahoney, professor of politics and international relations at East China Normal University; Andy Mok, senior research fellow at the Center for China and Globalization; and John Gong, professor of economics at the University of International Business and Economics, to explore the deep political and constitutional tensions behind these events.
