When I first got out of the Army in 2005 I was hitting the ground running and nothing was going to stop me. I was very successful in the Army and my plan was to apply those same ideas and principles to my life and career outside the military. What I discovered was a huge shock to my system... What made me successful in the military was not going to make me successful now that I was out.

What I also found was that there were a lot of things I didn't know, and for that matter was never taught. Even more, I didn't know who could, or would teach me all these things I didn't know but desperately needed to!

Over the next several weeks I am going to talk about 11 things that never get taught but you need to know! There are obviously way more than 11 things, but I picked these 11 things to start off this conversation.

This week we return to the sport of USPSA from the beginner's point of view. We discuss scoring, penalties, and the several types of stages you may encounter in a match.

If you're going to compete, you need to know how the sport is scored and, if you're like me and make a lot of mistakes, where you're losing points for mental errors or going too fast and hitting a no-shoot.
