Overseas, devastation caused by Hurricane Ida in the U.S. has led to a strong statement on climate from President Biden. Plus gender identity is in the headlines, with safeguarding claims about a gender clinic in the U.K, while China cracks down on "effeminate" male celebrities.

And the Paralympics have come to a close, with Australian Paralympians securing pay equity after public outcry. If only the disability equality campaign launched off the back of the Games had checked their own house first...

The Covid situation isn't getting any better, with outbreaks continuing in three states. Vaccines could be a way out, with Victoria seeing record bookings and access to be opened to children. But that's not stopping Queensland from building two quarantine hubs to keep out the great unwashed from the south.

Overseas, terror in Afghanistan sees U.S. drone strikes resume, with children caught in the middle. Back on U.S. soil, hundreds of thousands face homelessness after the Supreme Court struck down a case of CDC overreach. And in the UK, fast-food chains are the first victims of the country's worst supply chain crisis in nearly 40 years.

At least we have the Paralympics to distract us - just don't ask how much the athletes get for their medal-worthy performances...

Letter writing is a powerful tool in activism. The best thing about letter writing is that it's a very personal, non-confrontational form of activism, making it great for anyone who is keen to get involved in activism but not really sure how. This week has brought fresh Covid chaos to Australia, with New South Wales recording its worst day of the pandemic (three times) and lockdown extensions in Melbourne and Canberra. But "doses of hope" are on the horizon as the country's vaccine program ramps up. There's also been trouble in court for the Federal Government and an ABC journalist.

And there's been even bigger developments internationally, with Afghanistan falling to Taliban control and the IPCC issuing a climate warning as wild fires rage across Europe.
