Eric (his English name) grew up partly outside of Shanghai, China and then in Shanghai. He is now a Software Engineer that maneuvers through his Shanghai life in a multitude of languages including Mandarin Chinese, Shanghaiese, English, Japanese and French. In this conversation we talk about: 

-how he learned his 1st language-both the spoken and written form 

-how learning his other languages compared to his Chinese 1st language experience

-what languages he reads in and why

 -how technology has changed language learning

-how street signs in China include a script that is not a language at all

This is our first group chat about Simplified Mandarin Chinese. In this episode we have Yifei, a Chinese college student in Shanghai and Phil from episode 2 fame (he's British), who is a Master's student and also works in Shanghai. Some of the things covered during this conversation are:

In this episode we chat with Angie, Creator of the T(h)ree of Books YouTube channel. 

Angie is from Germany and had a few languages under her belt before moving to Shanghai, China and studying Mandarin Chinese. She decided to take the time to study Mandarin Chinese in a classroom setting the first few months she was in the city and that is what our conversation revolves around. I have been curious about Chinese language classes in China so her description really kept my attention. She also shares tips, comparisons to her previous languages and her potential future in Mandarin Chinese as well.

This is the conversation that started the Changing Scripts Podcast. Phil and I initially did this interview for the Changing Scripts YouTube channel but it felt like too long of an experience for a video. It felt like a podcast. So here we are. Phil's journey learning Mandarin Chinese is nothing less than impressive.
