This week, Victoria is off on her hols, so Debbie and Alice take over the mic (and of course the coffee machine). They discuss how a five year old girl has passed her BSL Level 1 exam in order to communicate with her Deaf mum and the benefits of learning sign language at any age, but particularly when you are young.

Victoria is shortly off on holiday, so on this weeks podcast we decided to talk about our favourite topic - coffee!

There have been a number of stories about coffee chains all over the world and how they are creating good examples of employing deaf barista's, that have gone viral since the start of the year.

We look at the models that are clearly getting it right and how they are creating a sense of culture community that is aligning itself to the deaf community.

This week, Victoria and I discuss Life and Deaf, shown recently on BBC 4. Described by the BBC as "an immersive, experiential film in BSL about the deaf world, with its unique humour and culture. There is no score, no commentary and none of the conventions of normal film-making." This truly is like nothing I had ever seen.

This weeks podcast, we are joined by Alasdair Mackenzie, Outreach and Community Regional Officer for London and South East at the Houses of Parliament.  Yesterday afternoon Alasdair has this afternoon visited the team at terptree HQ to educate us on how Parliament works, and on this podcast he has shared how you can either individually or as an organisation make contact with your MP and explained what a Select Committee is how useful E-Petitions can be.

Alasdair also goes through the reasons that the recent SPIT THE DUMMY campaign was so powerful and what elements we can take from this to gain traction with our own campaigns.

​This is a fascinating look into how Parliament really works and will be useful for anyone who wishes to raise a matter/issue with Government either through their MP or other methods.​

Victoria is out of the office again today and left Debbie and Alice in charge of the podcast (as well as the coffee machine).  With it being exam time, they decided to discuss how they prepped for their own BSL exams, the things they found challenging and what got them through (and no it wasn't just coffee, but I am sure that played a big part!)
