    On Febuary 7, 1922 a fire broke out in the Lexington Hotel which was located in twelfth and main street in my hometown of Richmond, Virginia. 12 would die in a disaster that is mostly forgotten to time.

      To kick off Season 2 of Channel of Catastrophe, I will be doing yet another Sulpicio Lines ferry disaster... The Doña Paz had a sister ship, and an American built predecessor. In this episode I will be talking about two ill fated Sulpicio Lines vessels. The first Doña Paz which sank in 1977 amidst heavy seas, and the Doña Paz's sister ship. The Doña Marilyn, which capsized and sank in Typhoon Ruby killing upwards of 200 people ten months after the Doña Paz burned.

Of the 350 on board only 207 would make it out. Quickly swept under the rug by the Soviet leadership, this is a story that needs telling. This is the story of the PS Mayakovsy.
