On this episode, we sit down with Raleigh City Council Member, Jonathan Melton, to talk about how City Council is being impacted by COVID-19. We also dive into his story – from when he got news of his campaign’s victory, to why he got started in local politics, and more.
Jonathan is coming off a historic win this past election, where he became the first of two openly gay at-large members to ever be elected to City Council. He serves as the chair of the Council's Economic Development and Innovation Committee and is a member of the Council's Transportation and Transit Committee. In addition to his council member duties, Jonathan is also an attorney here in Raleigh at Gailor Hunt Davis Taylor & Gibbs, PLLC.
Jonathan wanted us to officially note that everything we discussed and any opinions he expressed are his and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of the City of Raleigh.
Also important to note, we pre-recorded all of our Chappell // Chats at a time when it was safe to do so. Since filming, Wake County, the City of Raleigh, and the Governor have issued stay-at-home orders and we will continue to abide by current rules.
Today's episode is brought to you by our unofficial local sponsor (basically just local stuff we really like), The Green Chair Project. A local nonprofit that serves families in need across Wake County and beyond, Chappell is a proud sponsor and supporter of Green Chair. Please consider making a donation to their cause as it will help support local families and even disaster relief. We simply like Raleigh Coffee Co. so check them out too.
Also, please be sure to like, comment, share and subscribe. If you would like to submit swag and be an unofficial, or official, sponsor - simply shoot us an email at
[email protected] and we'll make it happen. It's completely free. If you'd like us to cover certain topics, or if you wish to be on the show, or know someone else who would like to, shoot us a message or drop a comment below!
