Peter and Miss Fuzzytail face increasing misery due to Jed Thumper's relentless harassment. Peter is torn between leaving and staying for Miss Fuzzytail, who is equally attached to her home. Tommy Tit, visiting the Green Meadows, informs Old Man Coyote of Peter's plight. 

That night, Old Man Coyote travels to the Old Pasture, terrorizes Jed Thumper with his howl, chasing him to his castle. He then informs a hidden Peter that his past debt has been repaid, leaving Jed Thumper shaken.
