I’ve found certain types of gamers tend to play more at their own homes, or their friends’ places: narrative gamers, the #funhammer beer-and-pretzels crowd, tight-knit gaming groups of close friends, women and people of color that might not feel comfortable at shops, etc. I rarely hear any mention of the special circumstances and situations that this type of gaming gives rise to, so I set out to record a few episodes to explore the topic.
In this, the second part, I lay out a few things to think about before you host your next game night. Some of it’s obvious, but some is not. Take a listen and let me know what you think in the comments below.

I’m super excited to bring you all this interview with my two guests about the upcoming game — Warhammer 40K Roleplay: Wrath & Glory. Wendelyn is one of the rules writers, and Kaiser illustrated the ‘how-to-play’ comic you may have seen online. Both have play tested the game, and we cover topics surrounding the background, some rules mechanics that foster player interaction, and more. I have another hour coming after this one, so strap in and get ready to take notes.
Check out Part 1 here if you missed it.

This is a special episode, outside of our normal format. The topic of gender diversity and inclusion has come up again this past week, and I decided to bring a couple friends onto the show to talk about it. We also talk a lot about race since there are so many parallels. I hope you’ll find this interesting, and if you don’t care for the topic or find it too political, feel free to tune in next week when we’re back to our series on gaming at home.

Now that we covered some of Jake’s background and the web apps he creates, we shift the conversation to some of his thoughts about 8th edition and the state of the hobby these days. He’s a more competitive player than myself by a mile, but still falls into the category of a narrative gamer.

In this section of the interview, we shift the conversation a little bit to hobby chat. We cover topics like staying motivated through big projects like the Danse Macabre, the state of 8th Edition 40K and the appeal of accessible games to busy family types. We also chat about some of Nathaniel’s background in art, which is pretty killer info that I never knew about him before. Take a listen!

Nathaniel, or Naf Naf, has probably the single most unique army I’ve ever seen for Warhammer 40K. His unique take on the Carnival of Pain simply must be seen to be believed. I dive in deep with him about his inspiration and process, and some of his general thoughts on gaming and hobby as well. You don’t want to miss this one.
