Previously on... Evan Gold is a private detective in Athens, Kansas.  His head is swimming after the strange events of the week - his partner is murdered, the widow and the police name him suspect number one in the recent murders, and Evan needs to find the real murderer before he ends up in Leavenworth.

You might call this Chapter 23 part 2 as we finally hear some version of the truth from Evan's client Claire Porter.  But how much truth is in there, really?  What is she willing to do in order to protect herself from the harsh light of reality?  I don't know about you, but I'm on pins and needles.  The plot is about to get as thick as some slow-cooked Texas chili before we're done!
