For those who haven’t heard of him, or this story, Logan Paul is a YouTube star...meaning he basically gets paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to post funny videos, and has a huge fan base. But now he’s under fire from all directions: former fans, suicide prevention groups and families who have died by suicide have all voiced their opposition to a video Paul posted earlier this evening as he visited Japan’s “suicide forest.”

Copenhagen police are investigating the theft of a bottle of vodka that is claimed to be the world’s most expensive at $1.3 million. Police investigator Knud Hvass says it is too early to say whether the perpetrator of the theft at the Cafe 33 bar had broken in or had used a key, but says nothing else was stolen.

And wrapping up with a very Canadian, winter story out of Newfoundland about a group of snowmobilers that freed a moose trapped in the show.

Yesterday, we spoke briefly about Montreal’s decision to ban single-use plastic bags. City officials say that between 1.4 and 2.7 million shopping bags are circulated every year in Quebec, but only a fraction of them are recovered. The bylaw will make Montreal the first major Canadian city to ban single-use plastic bags, and merchants and individuals are being given a six month grace period to comply. Some Canadian cities will soon follow Montreal’s lead. Victoria is introducing its own single-use plastic bag ban in July, and Halifax is looking into similar policies.

After nearly three months, the trial of the three men accused in the Lac Megantic train disaster is wrapping up. Closing arguments kicked off today, as the accused face 47 counts of criminal negligence causing death.

Canadians can expect to be paying a lot more in fuel costs in 2018. A memo from the Department of Finance says energy consumers in provinces that contribute to the carbon tax will be paying at least $600 million in higher fuel costs, with legislation due this spring.

A Canadian man recently freed with his wife and young children after years of being held hostage in Afghanistan has reportedly been charged with at least a dozen offences.

Well it’s the 2nd day of 2018...and Donald Trump has already tweeted out the Tweet of the Year. Earlier this evening he sent out: “North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un just stated that the ‘Nuclear Button is on his desk at all times.’ Will someone from his depleted and food starved regime please inform him that I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger and more powerful one than his, and my Button works!”

Demonstrations in Iran are close to reaching the one week mark, and have resulted in at least 21 deaths. The protests began Thursday in Mashhad over Iran’s weak economy and a jump in food prices. They have since expanded to several cities, with some protesters chanting against the government and the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Hundreds of people have been arrested and a prominent judge on Tuesday warned that some could face the death penalty.
