Sears Canada plans to close 59 locations and cut approximately 2,900 jobs as part of its plan to restructure its business under court protection from creditors. The struggling retailer says it will close 20 full-line locations, plus 15 Sears Home stores, 10 Sears Outlet stores and 14 Sears Hometown locations.

A speaker has finally been named to the BC Legislature...but it’s anyone's guess how long he’ll stay on for. Steve Thomson, BC Liberal MLA and former Minister of Forests, Lands and Natural Resources was elected for the job this morning but he may only have the job for the next week or so. Meanwhile, today's Throne Speech is all about promises that may not even see the light of day. Large carrots were dangled by Lieutenant Governor Judith Guichon, which included a number of familiar key planks from the NDP and Green party platforms during the election campaign. Among them, scraping tolls on the Port Mann and Golden Ears, increasing the carbon tax, and a minister of state for mental health and addiction.

Authorities in Michigan are piecing together how a 49-year-old Canadian citizen made his way into the U-S, and managed to buy a knife before heading to the Flint International Airport where he is said to have stabbed a police officer in the neck.  the SPCA is warning pet owners to stop leaving their animals in the car. Even if your car is parked in the shade, with the windows partially open your vehicle can heat up to well over 38 degrees celsius.  Sticking with pets, a Maple Ridge veterinary hospital says honesty can save a pet's life after Dewdney Animal Hospital was able to save a puppy after it had come into contact with fentanyl.
