The notion that "only the measurable is real" is a deep reductionism that says all of the difference in the world is just number. But when we approach the world that way, we don't create the world we really want.

One book that influenced my thinking is called "Tending the Wild" that said this pristine wilderness that the Europeans supposedly discovered, where the native people were just living off the land, that this is a myth. That, in fact, the land was formed through a long relationship between the indigenous people and the places where they lived.
