Heat peaks on Saturday – expect heat indices approaching 110° – with a few thunderstorms in the afternoon. Sunday will be another warm and muggy day, but changes are in store as a front approaches the area and stalls out, helping to increase coverage of showers and thunderstorms.

We’re also keeping an eye on the tropics as a budding tropical cyclone gets its act together in the Caribbean before possibly heading into the Gulf this weekend.

We have one more day of less humid weather in store for Thursday before the heat pump gets going for Friday into the weekend. Highs on Thursday top out in the low 90s, while highs on Friday top out in the mid-90s and could reach the upper 90s on Saturday. Heat indices could reach advisory thresholds on Saturday, too. Next rain chance is Sunday as we turn a little more unsettled heading into next week.

Wednesday could start out with a couple showers, but it’ll be worth it as skies clear by late morning and dewpoints drop into the low-to-mid-60s, making for a rather comfortably warm day across the area. Highs top out in the upper 80s to around 90°, and the heat index won’t be a factor.

Lower humidity continues on Thursday before dewpoints head back into the low 70s Friday, combining with air temperatures in the mid-90s to yield heat indices around 100°. Rain chances are minimal through Saturday.

Tuesday will bring another day of mid-90s air temperatures and heat indices over 105° as high pressure remains in firm control aloft. A front will backdoor into the area Wednesday, sending air temperatures and dewpoints somewhat noticeably lower for a nice reprieve from the seemingly relentless heat and humidity of the past couple months. We look to stay rain-free through Saturday.

We also get a look at a very active Atlantic basin, with three cyclones and two areas of interest to watch.
