  • The Sermons of Jesus Fall 2011 Bible Study
Jesus did a lot of teaching to different audiences in different places, but the Gospels record only four long multi chapter sermons theologians refer to as The Sermon on the Mount, The Bread of Life Discourse, The Olivet Discourse, and The Upper Room Discourse. Jesus’ teaching in those sermons was radically different from the religious teaching of the day. The audiences were both amazed and confused by His new message and many were unable to accept it. Primarily, Jesus was explaining the New Covenant of Grace and shattering the illusion of self righteousness that people typically have.
Throughout these sermons Jesus makes radical statements that still puzzle theologians today such as, “Do not resist him who is evil, but turn the other cheek.” Or “take the log out of your own eye”. In John 6, He said that He is the “bread of life”  and “He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me”.  The crowds were quite often baffled at these sayings  but they fit well into the context of His sermon.
If you are like me you have heard many sermons or read books that claim to explain the main teachings of Jesus Himself, but come with me and study first hand what He actually taught and meant in His main sermons.

  • Spring 2011 Monday Bible Study: The Book of Acts
The Acts of the Apostles Lesson Plan
The Book of Acts is the continuation of the ministry of the risen Christ through His disciples on earth. Jesus had given them their “Great Commission”, and Acts gives us the history of how that great commission was carried out. Acts begins with the ascension of Christ to heaven which marked the beginning of the church in Jerusalem through the ministry of the Holy Spirit. We will see the mission of the Apostles, and hear their message of salvation. The progress of the Gospel was accompanied by great opposition as the Gentiles were included into the people of God. The Book of Acts tells the exciting story of Christianity’s spread throughout the Middle East into Syria, Asia Minor, and Greece until the arrival of Paul as a prisoner in Rome. Thus it could be called, “From Jerusalem to Rome”.
We will study Acts in eight lessons arranged as follows:
    1. Acts 1—the resurrection of Christ, the 40 days of appearing to the disciples, the great commission, and the ascension of Christ.

  • Revelation Lessons and Study Questions
Lesson 1:  John’s Epiphany of the Glorified Christ The Apostle John was a historical person. John wrote this letter to seven literal churches in literal Asia Minor. This was confirmed as such by all the next generation theologians like Justin Martyr, Tertullian, Clement and Irenaeus. It was written during the time of Roman Emperor Domitian […]
