#32. B”H
Over 550 years ago, in the city of Zaragoza, the Jewish community had a custom. Whenever the king passed through the streets, they would come out in his honor, carrying their ornate Torah cases as a sign of respect and loyalty.
But the king’s advisor, a man named Marcus, claimed otherwise. He insisted that the Jews were not honoring the king at all. “They are mocking you,” he whispered. “The cases they carry are empty. They pretend to show you honor, but there is nothing inside.”
The accusation ignited suspicion in the king’s heart. Was he being deceived? Were the Jews making a fool of him?
Determined to uncover the truth, the king announced that the next time he passed through, he would personally inspect the Torah cases.
