In honor of Black Music Month, we chat with Emmy Award-winning composer and pianist Kris Bowers about his work as a film and television composer and a Black Music Creative. We dive into the times, moments and influences that encapsulates why and how he creates, along with how he uses his medium to celebrate his blackness.
Bowers has recorded, performed, and collaborated with the likes of Jay-Z, Kanye West, and José James and composed scores for films, video games, television and documentaries including, Academy Award-winning film, Green Book, Madden NFL, Dear White People, Kobe Bryant's Muse, Norman Lear: Just Another Version of You (2016), SHOWTIME’S Black Monday and Ava Duvernay’s “When they See us”.
