This evening we discuss explore best practices for delivering a Hesped (eulogy), and how it is different from a tribute, using Avraham's Hesped for Sarah as the paradigm we seek to emulate. We analyze on what basis we do/should choose a spouse,l earning from Eliezer's test to find Rivka for Yitzchak, from Neely Steinberg's test of her husband after her delivery though C-section, and from two remarkable and unforgettable stories, one recently in Brooklyn, and one after WWII in a DP camp.

Michael Whitman is the senior rabbi of ADATH Congregation in Hampstead, Quebec, and an adjunct professor at McGill University Faculty of Law.
