Lucia Victoria Reserva Rioja 2018-Excellent $8.89 Costco Rioja

I can't believe this wine is selling for less than 9 bucks.

Rioja wines are some of the great wines of the world and this is an excellent Rioja wine.

Costco is an excellent place to find wine values.

A Reserva Rioja wine has  3 years of aging, 2 in the barrel and 1 in the bottle.

This Rioja has 2 in French and American oak and almost 4 years in the bottle and it still sells for less than 9 bucks.

  • Embroidery Monterey Pinot Noir 2021
The Embroidery Monterey Pinot Noir 2021 is a $6.89 wine at Costco. The .89 indicates that this is a special price and may not last.
This wine is produced by Precision Wine Company, located in Napa, California. They have about 25 brands and make wine for Trader Joe's, Aldi, and Costco.
The Monterey County AVA is north of Paso Robles and south of San Francisco. It has a wide variety of grape-growing climate conditions and soil types.
It has plenty of vineyards near the Pacific Ocean, giving the grapes cool weather and a full growing season. There are sub-AVAs inside of Monterey County that can produce highly touted expensive wine and the wines from the general Monterey Couty designation can provide excellent value.
The Embroidery Monterey Pinot Noir 2021 is 95% Pinot Noir and 5% Syrah. Typically speaking Pinot Noir does not need a splash of Syrah, which may indicate that this Pinot Noir is made in the more dull style like Meiomi and not classic Pinot Noir.
The wine was aged in American oak for 12 months which is a long time for a $6.89 wine. American oak has a wider grain than French oak so it can impart more influence into the wine. I suspect that much of the oak was used. Each time a barrel is used in the aging process it has less oak flavoring to give. The alcohol content is stiff for a Pinot Noir 14.5%.
The Embroidery Monterey Pinot Noir 2021 Tasting Notes
The color is a see-through garnet red. The nose is black cherry, herbs, crushed fall leaves, vanilla, a little milk chocolate, and plum. The Embroidery Monterey Pinot Noir 2021 is soft and smooth with simple, but rich flavors.
This Pinot Noir tastes like ripe cherries, exotic spice, plum, a little vanilla cream, and cranberry. The mid-palate shows orange zest, dried strawberry, and pomegranate.
The tannins are smooth and the acidity is balanced allowing the flavors to fully unfold.
    The Summary
The Embroidery Monterey Pinot Noir 2021 is a lot of wine for $6.89.
It splits the difference between the new style of Pinot Noir and the classic.
It is tasty and easy to drink!

    Trader Joe's Platinum Reserve Saint-Emilion 2022-The Best $15 Merlot?

Saint-Emilion is a village on the Right Bank in Bordeaux and they do Merlot, between them and Pomerol they produce what may be the best Merlot in the world.

American value-priced wine drinkers barely know what Merlot is.

There are plenty of high-end California and Washington producers who can rock Merlot, But not so many value-priced producers.

So this is your chance to taste really good Merlot, it is not Cru Merlot, but for $15 it will do.

  • 8 Plumas Sauvignon Blanc
The 8 Plumas Sauvignon Blanc Tasting NotesThe SummaryThe Link To The Companion Podcast Is Below!
The 8 Plumas Sauvignon Blanc is a $5.99 Aldi import exclusive from Spain. It is produced for Aldi by Dcoop S.Coop an extensive farming and ranch coop comprising over 75,000 farms and ranches. They are the largest olive oil and olive producer in Spain, along with producing other food products.
This is a non-vintage that isn't sourced from any one growing region in Spain. Typical a non-vintage wine of unknown origin is not a wine that gives you high hopes, but Aldi has an excellent reputation for selling quality value-priced wine in Europe.
8 Plumas translates to 8 feathers it seems Plumas is the base for plumage.
A coop in wine is a group of smaller vineyard owners who do not have sufficient grapes to produce enough wine to be profitable. They band together, find or build a facility, and hire a winemaker. This is common in Europe but is thought to be a step below estate wines since the multitude of small owners can make monitoring quality an issue.
The 8 Plumas Sauvignon Blanc is designated a Wine of Spain rather than a wine region probably because the grapes came from vineyards in several regions of Spain.
Sauvignon Blanc is not a typical wine from Spain which makes this bottling interesting since you do not find many in the stores. The alcohol content is a mild 12%.
Sauvignon Blanc is one of the easier wines to make, if the grapes are properly grown the winemaking techniques are simple and reliable.
The 8 Plumas Sauvignon Blanc Tasting Notes
The color is almost clear there is just a hint of yellow. The nose is pretty, there is candy spice, ripe apples, honey, citrus, and a spring bouquet. The 8 Plumas Sauvignon Blanc is a mild Sauv Blanc compared to the wines of New Zealand but does have decent flavor.
This Sauvignon Blanc tastes like apple, lemon, a little spice, melon, and pear. The body is too light to be a food wine, but when chilled can be a summer cooler on a hot summer day.
The acidity is light and stays out of the way.
    The Summary
The 8 Plumas Sauvignon Blanc isn't the best value-priced at Aldi, but does have a place.
A little too light-bodied to be a contender, but put a good chill on it and this is an excellent all-day summer sipper.

8 Plumas Sauvignon Blanc- Chill As A Summer Cooler

Plumas equals feathers... Plumas lead to Plumage.

Spain isn't well known for Sauvignon Blanc, but Aldi is well known for value-priced wine.

So is this match-up with Marlborough, New Zealand Sauv Blanc?

No, this is more of a hot summer poolside cooler.
