Sermon from Michael Abrams

Double Oak Community Church Chelsea 11/14/2021

How can we build up others in prayer?

In prayer, we:

1. confess and believe the Gospel not only individually but together

2. recognize we live in the reality of the Gospel, as brothers and sisters who have a heavenly Father

3. we are encouraged by fellow believers and are compelled to love and good works for our neighbors: we live out the Gospel

Application: pray for and with someone this week!

Why We Pray:

1. Because God has first spoken to us

*Hebrews 10:19-23, Genesis 1:22, Genesis 1:28, Psalm 121: 1-4

* Prayer is us responding to God

* Prayer is the act of asking God to do what he has already promised to do

2. Because God is with us

* Matthew 6:9, Colossians 3:1-4

3. Because we are utterly dependent on God

* James 1:17, Colossians 1:17, Philippians 4:6-7, Ephesians 1:3

* We are approaching God the Father with trepidation - we can RUN toward him!
