Solomon’s Slidepieces 🛝👸🏽 1 Kings 11 Chew the Bible Season 3
In 1 Kings 11, King Solomon’s heart turns away from God. Even though he was wise, he loved many foreign women—700 wives and 300 concubines—including Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians, and Hittites. God had warned Israel not to marry foreign women because they might lead them to worship other gods—and that’s exactly what happened.
Solomon built altars and temples for pagan gods like Ashtoreth, Molech, and Chemosh, to please his wives. This deeply angered the Lord, who had appeared to Solomon twice and specifically commanded him not to follow other gods.
As a result, God declared that the kingdom would be torn away from Solomon’s dynasty after his death, though not completely. For the sake of David, God would leave one tribe under Solomon’s son’s rule.
Then adversaries began to rise against Solomon: Hadad the Edomite, Rezon of Damascus, and Jeroboam, a servant of Solomon who would eventually rule over the northern tribes.
Solomon reigned 40 years in Jerusalem, and when he died, his son Rehoboam succeeded him.
