​A cochlear implant is a small electronic medical device hat replaces damaged parts of the inner ear.

​Results of the new study led by researchers at Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago showed that most children younger than 1-year-old experienced meaningful improvements in hearing and listening skills within a year after receiving a cochlear implant.

Those Infants did not experience complications more than older children, providing additional evidence that earlier intervention can be performed safely.

The study resulted in the FDA expanding the implant's eligibility to infants and other children who have problems with hearing aids.

This week, the Illinois Department of Public Health added sickle cell disease and polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS) with chronic pain to the state's list of "debilitating conditions” that qualify for treatment with medical marijuana.

Doctors can now approve the treatment for patients suffering from either of the condition.

The two new additions bring the total number of qualifying debilitating conditions to 58 in Illinois.

​NIPSCO filed for the increases with the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission on the day of the first storm on August 11th, then again on August 14th and 20th, according to the POST-TRIBUNE.

​The Regulatory Commission's documents show the three rate increases will add up to 7-dollars, 33-cents per month, per customer.

The increases are "trackers", which allow NIPSCO to adjust rates to recover costs, or issue credits to customers if NIPSCO underspends.

For the three trackers, one is for regional transmission organization adjustment, another is for fuel adjustment and the last is resource adequacy adjustment.

Students at a Kane County High School had an e-learning day Tuesday because of concerns over possible measles exposure.

A spokesperson for Kaneland School District 302 tells WBBM, a student tested positive for measles prompting the e-learning day for students who attend Kaneland High School and Fox Valley Career Center.

The Kane County Health Department is currently working with the Illinois Department of Public Health to identify and contact people who may have been exposed to the student.

In the meantime, students and families are being encouraged to look out for measles symptoms which include a fever, cough, runny nose and rash.
